I was heading out to San
Diego to participate in
Strong Angel III for Bit9
and was able to take an extra day, rent a Harley for a ride through the desert
and catch up with some old friends from high school for dinner.
Here are a few pictures I took during a 270 mile ride on
Friday with an old high school friend, Tim Hmelar, that lives
out in California now.
After our ride out
through the desert we met up with two more Dover-Sherborn alumni, Scott Kuhn and
Ken Shimazu for dinner in Old Town San Diego. We ate at a wonderful little Cajun
restaurant off the beaten path.
Special thanks to folks at
Eagle Rider in
San Diego for
hooking Tim up with a Heritage Softail and I with an Electra Glide Classic for
our day touring the area in and around San Diego.
I stayed at the Best Western Island
Palms, on Shelter Island, while in San Diego.
Here are some shots of harbor from outside my room.
More of the harbor; boats of
every shape and size. I can just imagine what the insurance liability must
be....yikes.
This was taken
outside my hotel looking over at Coronado.
The pier is maintained by the
state parks commission.
The ship was one of many going
in and out of the harbor every day.

Rider in San Diego.
I've
rented from Eagle Rider on more than one occasion and have always found
the bikes to be in good working condition and they are very easy to deal
with.
This shot was taken
at a border burrito shack in Campo, CA.
We could wave to the Mexican
border from here before we turned north on S1 to ride through a couple of
the State Parks .
On our way north on Route 79
through Cuyamaca State Park about 70 miles east of San
Diego.
Some amazing rock formations, so different from what
we see back here in the East.
This little coffee house in Julian, CA
where Routes 78 adn 79 run together is a very popular riding stop on the
weekends.
We were there on Friday so it was fairly quiet.
A quick stop at Bigg's
Harley Davidson in Oceanside for a t-shirt. Thanks for the early
birthday present Tim!
The view of the beach in Oceanside is gorgeous.
After the day riding we visited the aircraft carrier
Midway, docked in San Diego harbor as well as Cabrillo State Park which
overlooks the city as well as Coronado on North Island.
