Atlantis, Paradise Island Bahamas
September, 2006

Justin had finished his 54 week program at CDIA in 3D Animation and Game Design and we hadn't taken a family vacation this year because of his school schedule. So, needless to say, everyone was ready to get away for a little rest and relaxation.

We had been looking at a number of different possibilities and settled on the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island. Located adjacent to Nassau on New Providence you travel over a 3/4 mile bridge to get to and from the island.

A view of the Royal Towers complex - I need a wider lens....... This is the Royal Towers complex, East tower on the left, West tower on the right and the "imperial suites" spanning the gap.

I really need a bigger lens.......

From our room looking back on the main part of the complex

Looking out of our room, past the East tower to the rest of the complex.

One of the many water attractions One of the many water attractions on the premises.

There is a water slide coming down the right side of the structure that tunnels through a tank full of sharks.

Not something you see every day....

Sting rays

Stingrays in one of the many pools throughout the complex.

Others contain sea turtles, sharks and all kinds of sea borne wildlife.

Sea turtles Sea turtles

More turtles

They were looking for food but the signs said not to feed them.

On our way to the Dolphin Encounter on Blue Lagoon Cay.

An amazing trip swimming with and interacting with dolphins.

Our instructor and dolphin coach

All of the dolphins are free to leave if they so desire but choose to stay. None of the performances are ever forced, if a dolphin isn't in the mood to participate then they don't have to.

A refreshing change from some of the shows I've seen in other facilities.

Justin going for a ride

Justin and AT getting pushed across the lagoon by a pair of bottle nose dolphins.

AT too!
They come up behind you and put their melon (forehead) against the sole of your foot and the next thing your know your up out of the water.
Now this is a boat! Thursday was quite an adventure, a Powerboat Adventure in fact.

Three V10 Daewoo turbo diesels producing almost 2000hp between them. Fast.........uh, yeah it is.

Feeding the iguanas down in the Exuma chain at the southern end of the Bahamas.

Feeding the iguanas - no, not the band.

JT and his new friend.

JT and his new friend.........

Thier private outpost Arriving at their private outpost for snorkeling, feeding the 'rays, watching the sharks and a great BBQ.

Oh, and did I mention the rum punch.....

Feeding the rays The stingrays swim right up to you and pull pieces of fish out from between your fingers.

The skin feels like rough sandpaper.

Feeding time! Feeding time.........don't get in the way!

One of the island "watch dogs"......err, umm......pigs?
